The Process Of Video Editing

by | Apr 25, 2016 | Business

Not surprisingly, the process of editing video has evolved over the years, particularly when it comes to movies and film, and the options for today’s video editors are much more exacting and specific. With new advances in video editing, everything can be done on computers, allowing for more manipulation to create the exact effects and appearance required.

In the not too distant past, most video editing involved actually working with the video tape in what was known as linear editing. This involved actually cutting and moving segments to create just the look, the shot and the image that was required.

The New Option

Now, non-linear editing allows the editor to add special effects, or to change the sequence of segments without any destruction of the original copy. This preserves the original images, allowing more options including multimedia components or to actually view frame by frame or to a specific frame.
For example, with non-linear editing, each frame is numbered by a unique identifier. Instead of requiring the editor to view frame by frame, the system can simply bring up the desired frame based on the identifier used to create the metadata system used.

Multiple Feeds

It is also possible to combined audio and video feeds during the editing process. Each feed can be separate as well as combined, allowing maximum control over the editing process.

Application software can then be used to refine the data, developing just the look, the sound and the effects that are desired. Additionally, the system will automatically track all changes made, allowing editors to quickly identify where they have made changes, to alter those changes, or to cancel the changes and still have the original data in the optimal form.

Maximizing Potential and Efficiency

While video editing it still an essential component of production for any type of movie, film, television, animation or online production, it is now faster and more efficient.

The editor also has the ability to have more of a creative role without having to worry about the quality of the original data being degraded or in making changes that cannot be reversed. This enhances the processes, but also adds a new layer of precision that wasn’t possible with the equipment of even a few years ago.

With HD and 4K video editing technology now in use, there are even more options for choices in programs, software, and tools, and each offers more applications for both professional use as well as for use for the general public.

The use of video editing is a critical part of the production, and Hi-Tech Animation is able to train students in the latest in non-linear editing software and technology.
