To obtain a Utah real estate broker license, there are several steps to go through. Each step is an important move forward for this chosen career path. The following text contains information that may help the reader to achieve a broader understanding of this process.
Step One: The Pre-License Course
The first step in the journey to becoming a real estate broker is taking a sales agent pre-license course. This class takes 120 hours to complete, and depending on the student’s schedule and method of learning, may take anywhere from one month to a year. The recommended time to complete this course is generally between two and three months. After the course has been completed, the student will be provided with a certification document and may move on to scheduling their test.
Step Two: The State Test
A candidate seeking their Utah real estate broker license must pass the state test after completing their coursework. In general a candidate should schedule their test at least 24-hours prior to their exam date, and be ready to pay a $66.00 fee.
Candidates will be asked to bring their certification document, which should have been provided after completing their coursework, and two forms of ID. (One of which must be a photo-ID.) A candidate who passes their test may now move on to the license application process. It is recommended to review the candidate handbook for scheduling recommendations, and additional test information,
Step Three: The License Application
The next and final step in obtaining a Utah real estate broker license is to apply for it. A candidate must meet specific requirements for consideration. These include completing the coursework and passing the state exam. An applicant must also have three years real estate related experience, accumulated at least 60 experience points prior to applying in five years or less, and meet the statutory licensing qualifications according to Utah Code Annotated 61-2-6. They will be asked to provide documentation proving they meet these requirements in the submission process.
When all these qualifications are met, an applicant may go to their local testing center to receive their application. It must be fully completed and returned along with the documentation forms proving their testing, school work, and experience. A broker verification form will also be required. At the time of submission there will be a fee of $158 and applicants are asked to provide fingerprint submission. A successful applicant may then begin their new career in real estate.
