How to Find the “Perfect” New Home Church

by | Feb 9, 2018 | Religious Center

When a family relocates or finds themselves at a point where finding a new “home” church is necessary, it can be difficult to know where to begin. It’s important to remember that you are not alone in this scenario – millions of people have or will face it during their spiritual journey– and that there are some solid steps that you can take to find your new home for fellowship.

Take a Look Around

If you’re new to the area, it’s easy to find a community bulletin board or local online forum that provides guidance for nearby religious needs. Recently relocated to the Detroit area? Try Google searching for “churches in Detroit MI” and see what you find; you may need not look any further to find a great new Catholic church or another home for your family’s worship needs.

Be Willing to Take a Risk

When searching for something new, it’s always important to be willing to try something outside of your usual comfort zone. Looking for a new church makes this especially important, as many people can be held back from finding the right location by their own fear of the unknown. Go to a place close enough to your home that you feel safe, and then give your inhibitions a day off. You never know – trying out that super-traditional or offbeat, modern service might be just the change of pace you and your family’s faith has been looking for!

Know that No Church is Perfect

Finding the perfect church in your area can feel like an impossible task, and that’s probably because it is. No such place exists. Churches in Detroit, MI and everywhere else on earth are made up of human beings who are imperfect by their very nature, so don’t waste your time looking for the perfect congregation. Find the one that is perfect for your family’s needs, and make yourself at home.
